December started off with the Jr. High Basketball Playoffs for Ty.
Before the season started, we received a phone call from the
High School Basketball Coach, Coach Anderson.
He asked to meet one night at the school with Travis and I.
When we sat down to talk with him, he let us know that he wanted Ty
to come play up at the High School this year for B ball.
We told him that we were honored he wanted Ty and that he
felt Ty was a good enough athlete to be able to do that,
but that we would talk things over with Ty and ultimately,
it would be his decision either way.
Coach Anderson gave us the weekend to talk it over with Ty and get back with him.
Ty was torn. He was excited at the thought of playing at the High School,
but he had really been looking forward to playing with his friends
during their last year at the Jr. High.
He prayed about it through the weekend, and Sunday night he came to us
and had decided he wanted to stay down and play at the Jr. High level for his last year.
If I'm being honest, I am so glad he stayed down, and so is he.
The excitement of the games, the fun of being the 9th Graders, and being with his friends,
would have all been missed had he played up.
This Jr. High Season just couldn't have been more fun or more special.
It started off a little crazy.
The team had been told one of the High School coaches would be their new coach,
as their old coach left and moved on.
However, that was not the case once the season started.
The new principal at the Jr. High hired a teacher from the High School to coach them.
The team was not happy about this new coach.
His record wasn't the best, and he was somewhat unexperienced.
But, after talking to administration, and meeting the new coach,
they decided to just jump in and make the best of it.
The new coach knew and understood this was all new to him,
and because of such, asked Travis to come during practices to help him learn plays
the kids were used to, and used Ty a lot during half times in the locker room to help
the team and himself know what to do.
It wasn't the ideal coaching situation, but in the long run, the starting team had a lot of say,
and became amazing leaders and examples to the rest of the team.
They had an awesome season.
They made it to the semi-finals and lost in a heartbreaking game vs. Centennial.
We were up on them......they are the reigning Champs for the last 3 or so years.
But, after Bridger getting hurt with a huge cut on his eye,
and Ty dislocating his finger, along with some other injuries,
they got up on us, and we just couldn't quite recover after that.
But, I don't think anyone expected us to make it that far at the first of the season.
A bunch of the High School kids started coming to the games towards the end of the season,
and during a couple of the really big and close games,
they stormed the court after we won and made it so dang fun!
They even came to the semi-final game held at Viewmont High School!
Quarter Final Game vs. Kaysville
and Last Home Game Ever!
Ty and Mr. William's.....one of his favorite Teachers and Track Coach!

Last Game as a Syracuse Seahawk.....
You were a great Team Captain and had some really fun Season Stats as well!
Way to finish BBall at the Jr. High!
Garrett had a fun Basketball season for his Jr. Year as well.
He got enough Varsity time to Letter which was exciting!
He decided after lettering in both Football and Basketball,
that he did want a Letterman's Jacket.
It was fun to go with him to Coleman Knitting to design it and pick it all out.
By the time we got it back, the weather was getting warmer,
so he didn't get to wear it much this spring.
Hopefully he'll get a lot of wear out of it this coming Senior Year!
We were so proud watching him play basketball this year.
Garrett is an awesome teammate.
He's one of the biggest cheerleaders when he's not on the court.
It was a fun season.
Austy had his Preschool Singing Program on Dec. 6th.
He did such a good job and it was so fun to watch!
Later that night, Ty received a pretty special award.
We were contacted earlier that week by the school administration,
and personally invited to their District Teacher Training meeting.
We weren't quite sure what he was getting, but we had Grandpa Randle
and Grandma Davies there with us to support Ty.
The District Administrators were all there and after a few minutes of
a meeting with the teachers in the District,
they asked Principal Hadlock to come up.
He invited Ty up with him and began telling everyone about Ty.
I sat in tears as he read comments by teachers who had nominated Ty,
not only for his athletic and academic abilities, but more importantly,
for his good, kind character and leadership abilities at school.
Stories were shared of his love and friendship to those he tutored with special needs,
and for the way he makes others feel wanted and
needed through his HOPE Squad responsibilities.
Our new Superintendent also happened to be
Trav's High School Basketball Coach, Reed Newey,
Trav's High School Basketball Coach, Reed Newey,
who was there that night to present the award to Ty.
We couldn't have been more proud as Ty received the
Davis County School District Outstanding Achievement Award.
Very Deserving Ty.
On the 13th of December, Trav and I celebrated our 19th Wedding Anniversary!
19????
I met him when I was 19.
More than half of my life has been spent with him, and to this day....
he continues to be the best decision I ever made!
We have experienced so much together these last 19 years.
I wouldn't trade it for the world!
We had our Randle family Christmas Party on the 18th at Grandpa Randle's.
I love how much fun the kids have when we all get together!
We had dinner and opened gifts.
This year, we also had a little program.
It was so fun.
Grandma and Grandpa Davies used to always have a program.
We'd read the Christmas Story and sing songs.
Not knowing how long Gma would be with us, I wanted this Christmas party
to feel like the good old days for her.
I asked each family to put together a little something to perform.
Some of the kids wanted to keep singing, and shared extra songs with us!
The next day, Ty had some surgery on his mouth.
He had some recession in his gums on his bottom front teeth due to his braces.
They cut gum tissue from the roof of his mouth,
and sewed it to the gums that were receeding.
He was so uncomfortable those first few days.
(Totally graphic.....sorry!)
But, we were excited he was able to get it fixed between sports and looked
(Totally graphic.....sorry!)
But, we were excited he was able to get it fixed between sports and looked
forward to having the whole Christmas Break to have it heal properly.
We made a big mistake, however......
Christmas Eve Grandpa Randle always plans something fun to get the kids
tired and ready for bed early for us parents.
This is a fun tradition.
In years past we have gone skiing, snow shoeing, bowling, sledding, etc.
This year, we opted to go Ice Skating at the Olympic Ice Rink in SLC.
The kids had a great time......many skating for their first time.
Austy picked it up fast and LOVED it!
Ty......not so much.
The only one that fell hard the whole time.....and was the only one that shouldn't have!
He was cut off by another skater and landed flat on his face.
He came running over to me, bleeding horribly from his mouth.
Dang it. Dang it!!!
The stitches split right open and the surgery never healed right after that.
He has to have it done again, we're just waiting for another time between sports!
We came home, got the house ready for Santa, and opened our gifts we bought
for our tradition of drawing names.
Everyone got in their jammies, we read the Christmas Story of our Saviors Birth,
placed our key on the porch for Santa, put his snacks on our table and went to bed.
Christmas morning was awesome as always!
We finished off the year with Garrett playing in the
Juan Diego Basketball Tournament in SLC,
and when the last game was played, we took off to the Cabin for New Years!
We had an amazing 2016.
A lot of good things happened for our family and a ton of special memories were made.
I am blessed to be the Mother of this family and am so grateful for all we have.
