Oh football......how we love you!!
Garrett and Ty both had the season of their lives this year.
Every ounce of it was awesome!
Garrett started off the summer feeling like he was done playing football.
He never really loved it - Basketball has always been his favorite.
His coach got wind of the news that he was
ready to hang it up and asked us if he could talk to Garrett.
We were fine with that, as long as he understood
that we would support whatever decision Garrett made.
After about 30 minutes on our porch with his coach, Garrett chose to play again this year.
I am so glad he did. And so was he.
Garrett was given the opportunity to run with the ball more this season,
and did an amazing job!
He scored the first touch down of the season, and also the last!
His team had the best season they've ever had.
They beat the Number one team for the last 4 years in the Semi-Final game.
That was HUGE - because it was the other team from our city with a bunch of his friends -
Syracuse Gold.
Not only had they won the Mini-Bowl 4 straight years......but no one had beat them in 4 years either.
We had never matched up in that time, the way schedules worked out.
So, to play them for the very first time, and be the first team to beat them in 4 years and keep them from their 5 Mini-Bowl was a major accomplishment.
They have an awesome team with incredible athletes, some of whom we are very close with.
It was a fun game to watch and extremely intense.
Both teams played their hearts out.
Garrett's team lost in the Mini-Bowl to North Ogden, which broke our hearts for the kids.
They did such a great job!
It was fun to have Garrett get the opportunity to play at
Weber State and to score our Touch Down there.
So proud of the athlete Garrett is and all he accomplished this season!
Ty's season was just as awesome!
His team won the Mini-Bowl for the 2nd year in a row!!
Not an easy task!
Ty had to sit out the first 2 games of the season because of his fractured foot.
However, his first game back, he scored a Touch Down that was awesome.
The crowd was cheering and so many parents were telling me how good it was to have him back.
I got a little choked up over the whole moment!
It really WAS so fun to have him back!
After that game, Ty came off the field in tears.
He was mentally, physically, and emotionally drained.
He played in that game longer than we had planned. We were going to ease him back in.
That didn't happen and Ty was worn out and super sore after that game.
He played his heart out and we were so proud of him for not giving up even though he was hurting.
We ended up going back to the Dr. and getting orthotics for his cleats to try and help his feet.
He took it a little bit easier the next couple of games, and then after that he was back in full!
It was such a fun experience to have both of our boys playing in the Mini-Bowl.
We couldn't have been more proud of either of them.
Awesome season!
We love our teams - the kids, the parents and the coaches!
Can't wait for next year to start!!
