2017-2018 High School Basketball Season

Basketball started in November,
a couple of weeks before Football ended.
Ty was able to be with Garrett for Varsity Practices and dinners,
which was fun for them.
I was really proud of Garrett this year.
He changed his attitude about the whole program,
and decided it was his Senior Year, he was just going to have fun, and make it fun.
And that is just what he did.
Ty played with the Sophomore team and helped on JV and Varsity,
until he got a concussion by taking a blow to the head in one of the first few games,
and was out for a few weeks.
After that, he mostly just played Sophomore while he was recovering.
We were very conservative when it came to this concussion.
It is his 2nd in 3 years.
Knowing we'd be strapping a football helmet back on within 4-5 months,
we were not super eager to get him back out on the court
to get hit again, by any means, and neither was the Dr.
Anyway, it was a fun season to watch the boys!
Our Varsity team was in a tough region,
but it was fun to be back playing the Northern teams that we played for years
against when Trav had their BigMacks team.
It was fun seeing most of the Big Macks out there playing together for their Senior Year.
Zach and Bo don't play basketball anymore,
so they were the only 2 missing from the team.
We had a great season, and many games came down to nail biters,
while made for really exciting games with the crowd on their feet!

Senior Night was held during our last Home Game on
February 21, 2018.
So weird to think that Garrett will never play High School Sports again.
He may play in some adult Rec leagues down the road,
but sports for the most part are over.....and they've played a huge part in his life.
It was a bittersweet night.
We have played Ball with these boys and interacted with their parents for close to 13 years.
We've had a lot of fun times and made lasting memories!
They'll always hold a special place in our hearts!

The basketball End of Season Banquet was held

on May 23, 2018 at the Cinemark Movie Theater Banquet Room in Centerville.

The team captains gave each of the Seniors awards.
They started off saying that during the season Garrett would tell everyone that he was
"The Best Guy on the Bench!"
When he would go in to the game, he would ask someone to fill in for him on the bench
while he was out on the court! :)
So....the kids gave him "The Bench Captain" award.
With the certificate, they gave him a minature Picnic bench!
I was really proud and happy to see that Coach Anderson recognized Garrett for
his leadership and attitude on the team.
Not many kids were awarded serious awards that night.
Garrett was very deserving of this recognition.
Coach Anderson said,
"The kids already mentioned this, but Garrett in my mind was the constant Team Player.
He was outstanding this year.
He was at practice every day, with a smile on his face, every day.
Battling every day.
That "Bench Captain" thing the kids mentioned was something
Garrett actually took very seriously last year, and he was great this year.
I've loved getting to know him. He's my TA this year,
and I enjoy seeing him every other day.
He's always willing to help out and do whatever needs to be done.
I wanted to recognize Garrett and give him the 6th Man Award.
I know you didn't have the greatest shooting season of your life,
but you contributed in so many other ways that were unbelievable
and I just wanted to recognize you for that and tell you how much I appreciate you!"
I was so thankful he took the time to recognize the leader Garrett has been on that team.
He wasn't given the playing time he would have liked or hoped for,
but he still stayed with the team, and cheered everyone on and was an awesome leader
for the kids on the team.
When he did play, he gave it his all and helped on the court a great deal.
Travis and I were so proud of his attitude, commitment and the leadership he showed this year.
I was so grateful Coach Anderson took the time to recognize Garrett for that.
He was very deserving of his kind words!
