Remember our "Trip Box?"
This time last year, we started this little box to help the kids realize what it would take to pay for a trip to Disneyland. We wanted them to help work to pay for it, so they could understand why we can't just pick up and go there whenever we want.

We wanted them to help work to pay for it, so they could understand why we can't just pick up and go there whenever we want.Tyler had to do a paper for school the other day, and as I was reading through what he wrote, he stated that "he wished money grew on trees."
Sometimes we think our kids really believe it does!
When we started this box, we put all of our money together, after tithing and saving for college, missions, marriages, etc.
We had a total of - $134.00 on April 28, 2010.
Yesterday, we all met in the family room, dumped out our box and began counting it up to see what our efforts have produced throughout the year.
After about 30 mins. of hard work and counting....
we found that we now had $348 and some change.
I swear, both times we have done this, there is so much change, that I find myself getting super excited thinking we can go immediately!
That obviously hasn't been the case. We couldn't really go right now anyway. There is no way I could go and sit and watch everyone else ride the rides! That would be torture!
We actually had saved more than $348, but seeing as we keep the box on our kitchen counter, it is too easily accessible to our needs for quick cash.
We've paid babysitters, lunch money, pet meds, etc. out of this thing over the year.
I'm thinking it needs a new home,
somewhere more safe that requires effort to dig into it for last minute needs.
After having a little talk with one of our children, who shall remain nameless, (but looks like and probably is....our oldest one!), about the fact that he is the only one that never contributes any money to our box, and how fair would that be to have everyone else put money in but him, and he still be able to come with us when the time comes, Trav Surprised us in telling us we just got our Tax Returns back. He told that child, that if he would change his attitude a little and not be so selfish with his money by contributing at least $10.00 to the box right then to bring us to $358, he'd go to the bank and match our total!
He never made it to the bank yesterday before they closed,
but you can be sure none of us will let him forget that deal!
We're shooting for next Feb. to have our money earned.
Santa may have to help out a little before then in order for us to reach our goal,
but the kids will be off track and that will be perfect!
I can smell the churros and hear the pirate music already!
Besides....Minnie can't wait to visit home!

Oh how I love Disneyland!! I just went a month ago and cannot wait to go again.
What a great lesson you are teaching your children. I wish more parents spent the time with their kids and helped them earn the trip. It will mean alot more to them.

Such a magical place! February sounds like the perfect time to go. The kids will really appreciate it too, because they helped pay for it. So fun :)
