Down For The Count.....

A couple of weeks ago, during his Basketball game,
Ty ran the ball from one end of the court to the other.
Now, anyone that knows Ty, also knows that Ty did so at full speed.
When he went for the layup, he got fouled from behind and lost his balance.
That foul and loss of balance sent poor Ty's head flying straight in to the
cinder block wall, leaving a sound heard from across the entire gym
and sent Ty right to the floor.
Usually I wait for coaches to check him out first,
but seeing him just laying flat there, I took off out to the court to make sure he was ok.
Ty was crying and rolling around holding his head.
It was comforting to know he knew where he was,
who his teachers were, and seemed mentally ok,
but the lighting and noise immediately started to bother him.
We couldn't get him up, it hurt his head too much to try and stand up.
The coaches just moved him to the sideline to lay down, so the game could continue on.
When the game was finished, Travis Hamblin helped Trav walk Ty out to the car
and we took him right home for a blessing from Trav and Grandpa Randle.
We kept him home from church that next day, trying to make him rest.
That next week just also happened to be the last week of the Term/Semester.
We didn't love sending him to school, but felt we really didn't have a choice.
Ty would text me from class letting me know his head was hurting,
but wouldn't let me come get him, because he needed to be in class.
By Thursday of that week, Ty was still having feelings of being nauseous,
the headaches were persistent, and sound was still bugging him.
I wasn't comfortable with that.
Ty felt like his grades were pretty solidified by that point,
so he and I went Friday morning to talk with his teachers for that day
to fill them in on his situation and to make sure he wasn't going to miss anything
that would hurt his grade that final day of class.
They were all very understanding and excused him from their classes for the day.
We went to see Dr. Stewart at Tanner Clinic,
and he confirmed Ty did have a concussion and would need to take that entire long
weekend to take the necessary time to heal, seeing as we were a whole week behind
on that process having gone to school and overworked his brain that whole week.
Luckily, we had a long weekend for Martin Luther King Day
as well as a Teacher Prep day.
Ty spent a lot of time in his room with the shutters closed, and nothing to stimulate his brain.
He took long naps and just laid around the entire weekend.
We let him have his phone every once in a while and watch tv a little.....
I wouldn't be able to stand staying locked up in a dark room all day without anything to do either.
By the time school started Wednesday, Ty had major cabin fever and was excited to go back.
He did really well.....no headaches or anything, so we tried running a little that night at Practice.
He was able to go to school all week without any issues.
He and Trav went to the church this morning to shoot around and Ty came home with a headache.
Hard to know if its from lack of physical activity for 2 weeks,
or if its his bodies way of saying it still needs more time.
We will try the gym again on Monday and see how he does.
Concussions are a scary thing, and I was super nervous at first.
I'm so grateful he is ok, and hope he can recover and be back to full pace.....
seeing as he has a basketball Tournament in Oregon in 3 weeks!!
Ty had Bentley there to help him through his dark time outs!
Here's to a good week this week Ty!
Love you!
