When Hard Work Pays Off.....

Garrett and Ty both Participated in
the Jr. High Track program this year and did awesome.
I love watching them participate in track.
Such a fun and uplifting environment.....everyone cheering for each other.
Competing against themselves and as teams.
I just love it!

Garrett competed in the 100 m., Long Jump and 4x1.
Garrett did well in the 100 each week, and his 4x1 team won a few times and did awesome!
The long jump was new to Garrett and the coaches didn't give much help there....
but we were proud of Garrett trying, and he even ended up qualifying
in the high jump for North End.

 Ty competed in the 400, 4x4, 4x1, 200m and 100m.
It was fun to watch Ty compete in the first heats vs. 9th graders.
At some points he was the only 7th grader competing.
The first couple of 400's Ty ran, he went so fast he was sick.
He came up to us in the stands and said, "I'm done.  I can't run anymore.
My heart is beating in my eyes!"
He laid down on the bench and fell asleep until the 4x4!
I couldn't help but laugh.  It's all or nothing with Ty!

Garrett and Ty even competed against each other in the 4x1 at one point.
Both boys qualified for North End and competed there.
Ty qualified for District in the 200, 400, and the 4x4.
District was held May 13th at Syracuse High School.
Ty's 4x4 team placed and broke the school record!!!!
They were given medals and were so excited over their accomplishment!
Rightfully so!  Record Breakers!!

Devin Spalding (9th grade), Jared Palmer (8th Grade), Zach Smith (9th Grade) and Ty (7th)

Later that night was the 9th grade awards ceremony.
The school had called earlier in the week to tell me Garrett was getting a major award
and they needed to know if he was going to be there at the ceremony.
I didn't want to tell Garrett.  I wanted him totally surprised.
He was whining about having to go and told me none of his friends were going.
Needless to say, we got him there and he was SO glad he was!
Garrett received the Basketball award, given by Coach Trent Whiting.

After many awards were given.....the next surprise came.
Nominations are made and then each member of the faculty votes.....
Garrett was chosen as the Top Athlete for the year for his abilities as an athlete and leader
in Football, Basketball and Track!!!!

We couldn't be more proud of him!
He was such a great leader to the kids as the captain of the basketball team.
We had a couple of parents tell us how grateful they were for the example he was to their 7th grader.
Those moments are rewarding as a parent.
Garrett was so shocked at the awards.
He wasn't expecting them at all.....which made them that much more exciting!
It was a huge day in the Burke Household.
We love you Garrett and Ty.
You're hard work definitely paid off!
